Bass Rock landing trips are awesome! |
            | |
            | Theres
a good choice of boat trips leaving from the harbour. The most
popular is a three islands trip around the Lamb, Craigleith and
the Bass Rock. Two organisations offer trips around Craigleith
and the Bass one on Sula II, a traditional seagoing
launch, and the other on a catamaran (Seafari Explorer) or a
RIB operated by the Scottish Seabird Centre. Book in person at the
harbour or by telephoning 01620 880770 (Sula II) or 01620 890202
(Seabird Centre). Further offshore, theres regular landing
trips to the Isle of May on a RIB (not suitable for those
who are pregnant or have back ailments) contact the Seabird
Centre to book. For a really unique and spectacular experience
take a landing trip to the Bass Rock. Organised through
the Seabird Centre, the boat leaves either from North Berwick
or from Dunbar harbour for a guided visit of around three hours
on the Bass to observe the gannets up close in their environment.
After leaving the Bass, a landing trip includes chumming
where dead fish are thrown from the boat and gannets start a
spectacularly close diving and feeding frenzie. Note: Weather/sea
conditions can cause trips to be cancelled at short notice. |
            | Forth
Ferry to Anstruther. The Seabird Centre recently revived
the old Pilgrims Ferry across the Firth of Forth. Take
a day (return) trip on the Forth Ferry from North Berwick harbour
to Anstruther in Fife. Tide permitting, theres usually
around 6 hours on the other side to explore the town,
visit the Scottish Fisheries Museum and enjoy the world-famous
Fish n Chips before making the 45-minute return trip.
Take a bus to St Andrews (regular bus service from/to Anstruther
harbour) to complete your pilgrims journey. |
